Geocache Description:

This geocache is located at one of several "northern suburbs" of the “Lost City of Volvon,” a significant Native American site in the Morgan Territory area. The Lost City and its suburbs have well over 1000 mortar holes, which were used by members of the Volvon tribe of Bay Miwok Indians to grind acorns and other food items.

For additional details on the Lost City, see the Lost City of Volvon geocache.

Although this one seems a bit out of the way, it is a logical site for a settlement, since there is a nice stream that runs down the hill here. By one count, there are 75 mortar holes nearby, including 25 in a single rock.

Although most of the mortars are in an area covered with poison oak, there are a few nice mortar holes on the north side of the stream, accessible by a short path that intersects the fire road about 10 meters (30 feet) north of the cache. Also, there is one large mortar hole adjacent to the trail on the east side, roughly 10 meters (30 feet) south of the stream.

Come and enjoy this great site, but PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB, HARM OR REMOVE any Native American items, as they are strictly protected by federal and state laws.
