This is an old marker confirming the site of the first steamboat from the Mississippi up the Rock River to Rock County in June, 1836. In 1839, another steamer made its way up the river as far as Jefferson, stopping along the way to pick up or discharge passengers along the way. Commerace by boat was somewhat limited as the river was shallow in places.
