Geocache Description:

Box is hidden from the remains of the church of Saint Helena.

        

Today only the remains of the church dedicated to Saint Helen ( 248 328/330 ) , the mother of Roman Emperor the Great and patron saint of the poor , have survived. She is credited with the discovery of the relics of the True Cross , so she is also locally known as Saint Helen of the Cross. The first mention of the church dates back to 1381 and the Last Will and Testament of the parish priest of Dobrinj .In the middle of the 16. century members of the Brotherhood of St.Helen convened at the church , but the last mention of the church as a place of worship is in the Canonical Visitation of 1780 while in 1827 only references to its remnants can be found . It is one of rare examples of the celebration of St. Helen of Krk . Today the site not far from Soline Bay is referred to as Pod Svetu Jelenu.
