Geocache Description:

Kalgoorlie ANZAC 101 Series

The 101st anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign occurred on 25 April 2016 and commemorated a defining moment in the history of both Australia and New Zealand.  As a half Aussie half Kiwi caching team we decided to place this series along Anzac Drive to celebrate the friendship and special relationship between our two countries.

Each of the caches in this series contains one ingredient written on the back of the logbook or at the start of the log.  Collect each measurement and ingredient and you will not only have a great recipe for ANZAC cookies, you'll be able to solve the final puzzle!

Lone Pine

Between 6 and 10 August 1915, the Australian and Ottoman forces fought the Battle of Lone Pine.  This was originally part of the August offensive to protect the rear position of ANZAC troops, and distract attention away from the assault on Chunuk Bair.  The fighting was some of the fiercest experienced by Australians to that point.  Despite heavy losses (2,277 Australian, 5000-7000 Ottoman), the Australian troops captured 150m of ground and with that claimed victory.  Unfortunately the wider campaign failed and a stalemate developed.  Lone Pine was held until evacuation in December 1915.  Source: wikipedia.org
