Geocache Description:

Kalgoorlie ANZAC 101 Series

The 101st anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign occurred on 25 April 2016 and commemorated a defining moment in the history of both Australia and New Zealand.  As a half Aussie half Kiwi caching team we decided to place this series along Anzac Drive to celebrate the friendship and special relationship between our two countries.

Each of the caches in this series contains one ingredient written on the back of the logbook or at the start of the log.  Collect each measurement and ingredient and you will not only have a great recipe for ANZAC cookies, you'll be able to solve the final puzzle!

Nurses and Hospital Ships

It is not only men that suffered the horrors of Gallipoli - women working as nurses on hospital ships received some 8000 wounded during the campaign.  With limited experience and even more limited supplies they did their best to save what lives they could.  Those soldiers that survived were ferried to hospitals on Greek Islands or at Alexandria in Egypt (1050km away).  The overwhelming number of wounded and lack of supplies during the August offensive led one nurse to write, "could only wish all I knew to be killed outright".  Source: gallipoli.gov.au
