Windlehurst Methodist Church

Historically Windlehurst was a hamlet separated from High Lane and Doodfield by fields. Most of the houses to the east are of post second world war construction, so the identity of Windlehurst is almost lost but not quite. The first church in the hamlet was held at a local farm in about 1825 and a Schoolroom was built on the opposite side of Windlehurst Road in about 1846. The existing church was built in the early 1890s when one of the principal occupations was coal mining. The hamlet also had a pub 'The Travellers' Rest and a mill, both long closed. The church also has listed war memorials.
The wildlife garden

In common with other non-conformist churches there is a very friendly congregation which has contrived recently to produce an almost hidden wildlife garden.
Full details of the Church are listed on the Church website which can be visited via the link Church website link
