Church of St Mary
C15 rebuild of earlier church 1255?
Ham stone with some grey lies, cut and squared with ashlar dressings
with sheet lead roofs
Four-cell plan of 2-bay chancel, 4-bay nave, 5-bay north and
south aisles, with south porch and west tower.
The tower is in 3 stages with thin slit windows and gargoyles at top.
The north-eastern stair turret is slightly taller then tower
and is all crowned with a weathervane.
The south facing clock has a bright gilded face so that
it was highly visible for the local lorry drivers (1959) for relability!
Outside just right of the West Door is solid stone Holly Water Stoup
from which worshippers would bless themselves before entering the
church for services (pre-reformation times)
The church tower now has 5 bells, the fifth bell was added in 2002
after bell refurbishment by a Bridport company.
The inside fittings are mostly C19 but restoration discreet.
