This cache is in Schodack Island State Park in Castleton, NY. The park is open from dusk to dawn 365 days/year. Camping is available for the first time ever this year! The park has 8 miles of trails, a boat launch on the Hudson River and a kayak launch on the Schodack Creek. The park charges a $6 vehicle use fee on weekends from mid-April thru Columbus day.
The Box Elder is one of many species of trees on the island. Considered a member of the maple family, it's sap is potentially useful for syrup! The wood of the Box Elder has a nice purple streak in it - interesting! This cache may be in the shadow of one if you are here at the right time of day. Bring your own pen.
