Glenn Ford (1916-2006) Was born in Quebec, Canada as Gwyllyn Samuel Neuton Ford.  His family moved to Santa Monica, California when he was 8.  He began acting in high school plays and worked in a traveling theater company.  A talent scout saw what he liked and signed Ford to a contract with Columbia Pictures.  There he worked closely with another new actor (William Holden-another westerns actor) and they became lifelong friends. In his early days of acting-he worked as a barkeep for $5 per week in order to eat regularly.  He joined the Marines in WWII and continued with the military (in the Naval Reserves) well into the Vietnam War era.  At this time he was in the Navy and rose to the rank of Captain.  As he worked in more westerns, he got to be the fastest gun in Hollywood.  He was able to draw and fire in .4 seconds.  That was faster than either John Wayne or James Arness, who at the time were the fastest draws.  He was the #1 box office draw in 1958.  He even took up hang gliding when he was 64.  He had a saying that I liked.  He said "If they tried to rush me, I'd always say that I've only got one other speed, and it's slower".  Some of his westerns were:  "Jubal", "Texas", "The Fastest Gun Alive", "Cowboy", "3:10 to Yuma", "Cimarron","The Rounders", "The Sheepman", and "The Man From Colorado".  Some of his non-westerns were: "Gilda", "A Stolen Life", "The Apocalypse", "Don't Go Near the Water", and "Pocket Full of Miracles".
