Cross-country skiing is part of the Nordic skiing sport family, which also includes ski jumping, and a combination sport of cross-country skiing and ski jumping called Nordic combined. Another combination sport is ski-orienteering, which adds the skill of map navigation along snow trails and tracks.
The Art Roscoe Ski Touring Area is named in honor of Art Roscoe, a park forester who was instrumental in the early development of Nordic skiing at Allegany State Park. Partially comprised of old, narrow gauge railroad beds that wander through beautiful old-growth hardwood forests, the scenic trails often offer spectacular views of the surrounding Allegheny Mountains. As this is along the groomed section of the ski trails please follow these rules during the winter months. No Dogs Allowed, No Hiking, and No Snowshoeing.
