Chunuk Bair
The capture of Chunuk Bair, the second highest peak of the Sair Bair range, was one of the only successes for the Allies in the Gallipoli campaign. The Battle of Chunuk Bair was part of the August offensive, an attempt by the Allies to break the stalemate with Ottoman forces. ANZAC troops reached the summit early on 8 August 1915 and held it until 8pm on 9 August, when they were relieved by British forces. By early morning on 10 August an Ottoman counter attack had massacred the British and driven them off the summit. Source: wikipedia.org
Note: As Chunuk Bair was the highest summit reached, this cache has been placed on the highest part of Anzac Drive. The road goes through a cut at this point, so access is along tracks from a little further east. It is still accessible by 2WD, so long as you are comfortable driving a dirt track. Turn off the highway at S30 48.171 E121 27.249 and follow the track around to the right. When you reach a four way intersection at S30.48.217 E121.27.067, turn left to head toward the cache.
