The goal of this cache is to find a cache on each and every block of each and every page of the ADC Howard County, Maryland edition street map book. You do not need to look for any ADC map anymore as the entire state of Maryland has had each map page identified The final cache coordinates can be obtained by successfully finding a cache in each page for Howard County (currently 26 required pages and sections in all). All that needs to be done to see if you qualify is run the geochecker below and paste the results in your log. This cache is similar to the Maryland/Delaware DeLorme Challenge, but much smaller in scale. This cache only involves one county.
Current guidelines (June 1st, 2016):
- As mentioned above, the posted coordinates are the actual coordinates for the cache.
- The ADC Atlas that is being used would be between the years 2008-2010. This map is being used because it is the easiest map to create a geochecker with. The map used for the original Howard County ADC Challenge did not used any of those atlases, so the map pages are different. So, just because you qualified for the original challenge does not mean you qualify for this one.
- Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed on Geocaching.com that you have personally (physically) found and logged. You may include caches found prior to the creation of the Howard County ADC Challenge so long as they meet all other Challenge requirements.
- Cache hides will not count toward the Challenge. Of course if the only hides on a map page that are active are your hides, then you will receive credit for that map page.
- All cache types count as finds or hides for the ADC Challenge with the exception of Locationless, Event and CITO caches.
- Only caches in the Howard County portions count. The geochecker provided below is able to determine if a cache on a map page is within Howard County.
- There are two types of map pages: those that are required which means they had at least one active cache at the time of this Challenge being published, and those that are 'optional' - which means there were no active caches on the map page at the time of this Challenge being published. If a map page status changes, (goes from required to optional of vice versa), I will make a note and the checker will be corrected.
- While you may have others with you when you find the final cache, only those who have fulfilled ALL criteria for this cache will be allowed to log it as a find. Find logs by other cachers will be deleted.
- If you have any questions, comment, complaints or concerns, please email the cache owner. All decisions by the cache owner are final and binding.
The cache is located in Big Branch Recreation Area on a non-paved trail. The parking coordinates are listed below. The hide would rate about a 2/2.5. Big Branch Recreational Area is part of the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission. This area is closed to hiking from December 1st through March 15th. Also, there are certain times when hunting is allowed in the area. Please be aware of those times. Dogs are allowed on the trail but must be kept on a leash. There are two trails the lead to the geocache, one is on the shoreline and the other starts up on the hill near the playground/picnic area.
There is a geochecker for verifying you have completed the Howard County ADC Challenge. A big thanks to Vogelbird for creating this Checker.
