As I floated down the Flint River today, I figured I would place one more cache as I placed one not too far from the put in earlier. This one is closer to the takeout at Little Cove Rd.
This cache is a small camoed container also located on an island along the Flint River. The best way to get to this is by kayak, canoe, or inner tube. The day I placed it was like most weekend days during the summer - sunny and beautiful with just a tad of breeze. The water was chilly and refreshing. If you have been looking for an excuse to go on an adventure, look no further! The put in is on HWY 72 right down the road from Madison County High School and the recommended takeout is on Little Cove Road right down from McMullen Cove subdivision. Expect about 2-2.5 hours on the river (not including the time you will spend hunting for the cache). This stretch of the river is mostly flat with just a few sections of fast water. It is a great family outing.
Be forewarned, the river current can be strong after a heavy rain and critters are always lurking! Please use common sense and don't attempt this cache in unsafe conditions.
I HIGHLY suggest you have some sandals or water shoes as you will need to get out of your floating apparatus and walk on the island to retrieve this cache.
This one is all about the approach! Once you figure out how to get there, the cache won't be too tough.. I placed the cache in an attempt for it to stay dry after a heavy rain.
