Pedirka Ruins
This siding was part of the Old Ghan Line, before it was re-routed further west.
Now it has no inhabitants, stationmaster, or even any postal service, despite the rather prominent letterbox next to where the tracks once lay.
You will come to this siding on your way to or from Dalhousie Springs on the Pedirka track.
The Pedirka track (PAR 8) is a 4WD ONLY track, running from Hamilton to Dalhousie past these ruins. Our maps described it as "usually quite rough" or something like that!
We traversed it with a camper trailer in tow, but was dry weather. The track may get closed with rainfall! There is a longer, but quicker way to Dalhousie and Mt Dare, using the Hamilton Road, however this road will not bring you to Pedirka!
Inside the cache there is a stamp to mark your Letterboxing logbook, also there is an address inside the front cover of the logbook. Take note of the address and although not compulsory, for fun send us a postcard when you get home. .
Like all Outback trips, please ensure you have adequate supplies of food, water and common sense. As this is a very harsh environment. And be prepared to wait for creeks to become passable after rain.
Please note the stamp is not a swap item.
This is a letter box cache and the stamp needs to remain with the cache.
