The cache is located within the Cooper Marsh Conservation Areas Western Impoundment part of a provincially significant wetland known as Charlottenburgh Marsh. The western impoundment is home to a diverse number of flora and fauna species some of which are rare and unique to this area. It is an interesting walk along the perimeter dyke with opportunities to view different habitat features along the way, including alder swamp, open water, sedge marsh, and engineered channels. Bring your binoculars/scopes and or cameras as well as field guides as there is always lots to see.
A number of wetland and forest species of wildlife rely on cavities in which to raise their young. Unfortunately in many areas these old, dead, or dying trees are removed for safety and aesthetic reasons. By creating cavities for these species to utilize people con increase the habitat and biodiversity in their local area.
Park in the small parking area and proceed quietly to the blind for a view of the marsh. Tread softly and slowly as much of the wildlife in this area is skittish of human traffic. I would appreciate is you could let me know what species of waterfowl you have seen on your trip to the cache.
You are welcome to leave trading items but please take a plan, build it and they will come.
