Geocache Description:

This is a replacement for the old Church Micro at Holy Trinity, Hurstpierpoint. The clues and location of the Multi-cache are all new.

Church Micro 182...Hurstpierpoint - Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity church in Hurstpierpoint was built by Sir Charles Barry in 1843–5, the architect who most famously designed the Houses of Parliament. It replaced a previous church dedicated to St. Lawrence mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. It was built at the cost of £7500 under the guidance of the energetic rector Rev. Carey Hampton Borer in order to provide sufficient seating for the village population. When it was completed it had room for over 1000 people. The sandstone building materials came from the quarry owned by vicar’s father along the road at Pakyns Manor.

Holy Trinity is built in the Early Decorated style and contains items from the old church including two effigies of medieval knights, probably from the de Pierpoint family, and a Norman font, as well as some fine mid-Victorian stained glass.

The cache is not at this location. You will need to find four clues from around the outside of the church in order to obtain the coordinates of the physical cache. There are four clues located in the church grounds, one on each of the four sides of the building. Start at the West Door and walk anticlockwise.:

West: How many boot scrapers are there outside the main West Door? Answer = a
South: Look for the Hannington grave made from pink granite. How many years old was Samuel Hannington when he died? Answer = bc
East: How old was Mary Pike when she died? She is next to the Faithful family. Answer = de
North: The grave of William Randell’s wife can be found just next to the vestry door. How many letters are there in her first name? Answer = f. What year did she die? Answer = 187g. How old was she? Answer = 7h years.

The cache can be found at N50 56.(d-e)(c+h)(a+e) W000 10.(g+h)(b-a)(f-a).

When you reach the cache you will find it is on private property. To confirm that you are at the correct location, be sure to check that it is the only detached single occupancy house on the south side of the road. There is no need to enter the property as the cache should be accessed directly from the pavement. Say hi to the owners if you see them.

****CONGRATULATIONS TO CAVESPIDERS WHO, ONCE AGAIN WITH THE CACHES THAT I SET, WAS THE FIRST TO FIND****.
