Geocache Description:

Small magnetic container (no pen) located at the mouth of Beverley Brook. Busy location. Should be quite tucked away. Please replace where found.

Beverley Brook rises in the Stoneleigh / Worcester Park area, flowing through Motspur Park, New Malden, Wimbledon Common, Richmond Park and Barnes where it meets the Thames. As it meanders through south west London, it is fed by a number of tributaries, the mightiest of which is probably Pyl Brook. Ashlone Wharf, just to your west, is a complex barrier preventing tidewater flowing back up the Brook and protecting Barnes from flooding. Beverley Brook is recorded as ‘Beferithi’ in 693. The name is derived from the former presence in the river of the beaver, a species extinct in Britain since the sixteenth century. Beverley = Beaver's Ley, literally beavers' meadow. There is a sign board with information on the Brook on the other side of the bridge. Can be busy, especially at weekends.
