"Cootehills Quaker community had a Meeting House in the centre of this old hillfort. It was built in 1738 and Quakers were active here until 1900. The burial ground contains some inscribed headstones. This is the only Quaker burial ground in the Cavan/Monaghan area."
The meeting house (once known as "Drurys") on Church Street has since been demolished to make way for homes and the Quaker graveyard's entrance gate is unfortunately usually locked. For the keen, entrance to the graveyard is often permitted via a tour guide who may be reached through the Cootehill tourist information shop (located on Bridge Street).
It is not advised to enter the graveyard as the Lodge View gate is locked due to no demand from public for Quaker history, however there is a back entrance to the graveyard on a back-alley open path located in Drumnaveil. If you do decide to enter the graveyard, BE VERY CAREFUL going through this path - some muddy slopes on wet days or upturned rocks and roots may cause a slip!
While the cache itself is easily accessed, going into the graveyard is not advised for people susceptible to falls or bad balance.
The cache is a plastic container with a logsheet. There is slight room for small track/tradables.
Be very careful in this area - many, many peeping muggles! BYOP
