Geocache Description:

A pleasant seaside ramble along the coast to the North of the settlement of Makara Beach at Ohariu Bay

Back in the day when I was a youngster I was a frequent visitor to this stretch of coastline. On suitable days (a light southerly is best) I whiled away the hours trying to catch spotties off the rocks while my father and uncle dived for Crayfsh, Paua, Moki, Butterfish and Cod. Hawaiian Sling, mask and snorkel and an onion bag tied to an inner tube were the hi-tech diving gear of the day.

Please take extra care while crossing the Makara stream at the beginning of the walk. Planning your visit to coinside with low tide will make the difference between the water coming up to your knees or being waist deep (depending on your stature of course) even at low water it can have a reasonable current. The terrain rating reflects the need to cross the stream, the rest of the trek is about 2 to 2.5

Please NOTE that each individual cacher must sign the log book. Finds logged not corrosponding with the log book maybe deleted (photo logs are unacceptable and will be deleted).

Please take some time before leaving to ensure that the cache is re-hidden exactly as you found it.
