The toponym "Alrewas" is derived from the Old English Alor-waesse, meaning "alluvial land growing with alder trees". The Trent and Mersey Canal passes through the village, where in the northeast part it has a junction with the River Trent.
As a local I'd love for you to explore my village and enjoy all it has to offer. I have created a geocaching trip that will guide you through Alrewas, taking you past some of the landmarks, but I hope you will also wander around and enjoy the various pubs, buildings, little shops, waterways and the local Church whilst you are here.
This series can be done in any order as there is parking at several locations, or you can start at #1 and work your way through them in order.
From this cache you can look over the fields to Wychnor Church. There are a few caches along the canal there if you fancy exploring further afield!
