Brandon's first power trail featuring all the Mayors of the city.
These should all prove to be fairly quick finds along what we thought was a beautiful drive. Hopefully you learn something new along the way as well.
Thomas Mayne Daly (August 16, 1852 - June 24, 1911) was born in Stratford, Ontario. He was a lawyer and was called to the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1876. He practiced law until 1881 in Stratford. It was the same year that he moved to Brandon and practiced law here.
In 1882 he was elected as the first mayor of Brandon. His first term was 6 months before he resigned from the position. In 1884 he was re-elected as the Mayor of Brandon. This cache is in honor of his second term.
The Daly House Museum in Brandon is located in the Daly's Brandon home. It was built in 1892. The museum contains four floors of archives representative of Brandon's early history. The Rural Municipality of Daly was also named after Thomas Daly. He is also commemorated by Daly Street in Winnipeg and Daly Crescent in Brandon.
