Alfred Reginald “Reg” McDiarmid (1878-1944)
Reg was born on March 23, 1878 in Brianston, Ontario. He moved to Manitoba at the age of 4 with his parents. Reg went into the lumber business with the Rat Portage Lumber Company in what is now known as Kenora Ontario. He returned to Brandon and started McDiarmid & Clark, a branch of the Assiniboine Lumber Company. The company was taken over four years later by Sword & McEachern and then by McDiarmid & MCEachern. He continued business by himself for two years. Reg was the manager of the Brandon branch of the Manitoba Liquor Commission until he was forced to retire due to ill health.
He served as Mayor of Brandon in 1919 and was a member of the Brandon Board of Trade for many years.
Reg passed away on October 30, 1944.
