George Dinsdale (1887-1943)
George was born on August 14, 1887 in Leven, Yorkshire, England. He was educated in England and then moved to Canada in 1904. He farmed in Ontario before coming west in 1906 where he homesteaded in Elbow, Saskatchewan, farmed in Carberry, and then moved to Brandon to work as a carpenter at Lake Clementi and in a Brandon laundry facilitiy. George went to night school and then took up telegraphy with CNR. He opened his business in 1910 and that developed into Dinsdale Cartage Company. He remained associated with this business for the rest of his life.
In 1917 George was elected to the Brandon City Council and served two years as an alderman. He served as Mayor from 1920 to 1921. He was elected to council again from 1924 - 1925. Dinsdale was Chairman of the Police Board and was a Senior Officer of the Salvation Army.
George died suddenly at his home in Brandon on September 21, 1943.
