Geocache Description:

Penshaw Picnic Meet

Sunday 14th August 2016 --- 12.00 midday -13.30pm

Following the success of our picnic meet over the last couple of years at Penshaw Monument we thought we'd do it again this year. It seems to becoming an annual event as many folk have asked whether it's going to be on again. So come and join us for a picnic at the top of the hill next to the monument.

We'll start at 12.00 midday and be there till 13.30 but I'm sure there'll be folk arriving before that and staying a bit later. Bring your own food and drink. Well behaved dogs are very welcome also.

It's an easy climb but unfortunately not accessible to wheelchairs.

Like last year there will be a free draw.
1st - FTF
2nd/3rd/4th - an exclusive Penshaw Picnic Meet TB dog tag specially designed by myself and NE Geocaching for the event.

To enter all you have to do is turn up, find me and put your caching name on a piece of paper and drop it in the bag. You can also sign the logbook at this time.

There's a traditional cache GC2BPT7 right where we are having the picnic for you to grab if you haven't already, plus there's a recently placed multi cache GC5HWAT which starts at the bottom of the hill, and not forgetting a trig-point for those who collect those and it's also a loggable YOSM virtual GC45CC. Around the hill in the nearby surrounding area there are at least two dozen other caches to keep you busy if you haven't cached here before.

The monument and hill is National Trust Property and access is free to all, but we do remind you there is a donation box at the gate before you climb the hill. Looking after a monument this big costs accordingly.

If you wish to take a tour of the top of the monument you can just usually turn up and they'll give you a slot or you can book it in advance. The information can be found on the National Trust website on how to book a tour.

We hope to see you there, and if it looks like rain, remember to bring waterproofs just in case, this is Britain after all!
