Geocache Description:

Brandon’s first power trail featuring all the Mayors of the City.

Caches should all prove to be a fairly quick find on what we thought was a beautiful drive.  Hopefully you learn a little along the way as well.

Stephen Adolph Magnacca (1902-1980)

Stephen was born in Winnipeg on December 10, 1902.  He joined the Winnipeg Cadets in 1914, and at the age of 15, added two year to his age and joined the Winnipeg Light Infantry.  He became a Lieutenant on June 15, 1923.  He, his wife and two children, lived in Winnipeg  until his military career sent them to Brandon in 1940.  Here, he and his wife ran an Officer's Kit Shop and later a real estate business they named Magnacca Agencies.

Stephen was promoted to Major in 1933 and was made an honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the 26th Field Artillery Regiment in 1956.  He was made Colonel in 1967.

He served as Mayor of Brandon from 1961 to 1969

He is commemorated by Magnacca Crescent in Brandon and the Magnacca Research Centre at the Daly House Museum.  In 1973 he was made a member of the Order of Canada.
