Geocache Description:

044: Peninsula Caches- St Marys Church Challenge, Mistley Heath

It's difficult to imagine a small parish church here at all now. The field in which the church once stood is closed off, and used for sheep grazing. What remains of this church is now overgrown with long grass. This church was founded possibly in 1066 and the first recorded priest is dated as 1203. The church seems to have been stopped being used in 1539 and in ?1735 St Marys was demolished, except for the south porch which was used as a family chapel. Unfortunately even this was demolished as recent as the 1950s. Four graves survived up to 1981, one grave was relocated in the new Mistley churches. Although Jap would have liked this t have been a church micro new rules stopped this getting a number. Still, there are parts of the old church that may be glimpsed. This is a simple challenge cache: the Geocacher must have found 30 traditional caches, 10 puzzle caches (other than this cache), and 10 multis, and attended 5 meets, all in the county of Essex. Previous finds count towards this cache. The physical part of this cache will be found not far from the church walls. Many thanks for any that try this cache PGC Checker
