Geocache Description:

CACHE: Watch for poison ivy and maybe critters too. Might not be easy to get to when muddy or snowy. No need to be above. Isn't this tree amazing? It's had my attention for over 20 years.

HISTORY: White School, or as it's often called South Attica School, was formally established here in the 1850's, but school was conducted out of a barn and several homes over the years until White was built. The area started to be settled in the 1830's. In 1842, Attica was set off from Dryden. The main business area for Attica Township was in South Attica, as Attica Village didn't exist until the 1870's. The school was needed and used as a township hall until Attica Village grew. The railroad going through to the north brought about the demise of this little hamlet. A few foundations of important buildings remain and the cemetery, otherwise the town is gone. White School was the last structure to go when it burned, cemetery records for the burial association were kept here and most of those burned as well. Years later a trailerhome was put on the property, which was removed about a decade ago, a house was built behind it and up the hill. A piece of farm equipment sits where the school use to. White School saw over 100 years worth of students and many of them are buried in South Attica or Attica Township Cemetery.
