I discovered this spot years ago and always meant to come back in the spring when the herons would be on their nests. Every year I seemed to forget... A few days ago I decided to try hiking from a new trail head I had noticed on Landham Road and after getting into the woods I realized I had come to a place I'd been before, and at just the right season. On this beautiful May day the rookery was just loaded with herons. As I pulled out my camera, a beaver swam right in front of me, but dodged into the reeds before I could photograph him. The herons were easy to observe from several locations and there was plenty of other wildlife around. So this cache will introduce you to a new trail head and a really neat spot if you like nature.
The hide is a classic, an ammo can in the woods under natural coverage. Should be no challenge for most people to find and does not require extensive bushwacking or any special skills.
