Located along a well graded DOC walking track that would eventually lead along the north coastline of the Aupouri Peninsula to Tauputaputa Bay, Pandora and Spirits Bay. However you only have a short distance to walk from the Cape Reinga lighthouse access path to reach the cache. The short section of the track you will use to access the cache is several hundred metres above the rocky north coastline and you will get great views through hardy scrub, flax and cabbage trees. On a good day you can in fact see all the way to the Surville Cliffs, the northernmost point of the North Island.
Even if you are a day tourist on one of the bus trips to Cape Reinga you should probably have time to complete this cache and visit the lighthouse in the normal stopping time allowed by the tour companies.
The cache is a small "pill bottle" with screw cap, in camo. There is no need to leave the track to reach it - and please do not leave the track as that would damage the undergrowth which has a hard enough time of it to survive in the storms and gales that are common in this area. The cache contains only a log sheet and pencil and at time of setting had a signature pathtag.
