There are two solitices in a calandar year, in December and June. They mark the point in the Earth's journey around the Sun at which our planet's axis is inclined directly towards the sun. In the northern hemisphere this means that we are at our closest to the sun, hence summer!

On or around the summer (June) solstice:
- The sun rises earlier and sets later than at any point in the year.
- The sun will reach its highest point in the sky at midday.
- We will have the most daylight. From this point onwards the sun will set few minutes earlier than the previous day until we reach the winter solstice towards the end of December.
The next time you see the sun we'll be heading for winter!
Hopefully there will be great views from here as the sun sets in the west beyond the Trent Valley. Bring a chair, maybe a drink of something appropriate and enjoy the company!
There is limited parking at the above coordinates. Please park in the village with consideration for others. Arrive in good time, park a short distance away and walk down to the event.
