Boat Launch for Jack's Lake Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Inuksuuk: Despite the fact that the township owns this property, local land owners have gated it. People who live nearby have used this public boat launch for over 50 years and need to speak up at Town Council about it. In the meantime I'm sorry to have to archive the only public boat launch to the Crown Lands and my Earthcache 500 metres from here. People will now be forced to pay at the Marina or use the launch much further away.

Geocache Description:

yes   Free, public boat launch for Jack's Lake.  yes

yes  This is a little-known public boat launch at the south end of Jack's Lake. It is the best (and only) location for accessing Jack's Dam, which is a 5 km paddle by canoe or kayak. Yes, you can launch a motorboat here too, but you will not be able to get a motor boat through the Narrows to Jack's Dam, you would have to go around Brigg's Island. There is room here for 6-10 vehicles parked strategically. The geocache is small and tucked really well in. Please replace the container exactly as you found it so it doesn't get muggled. There are no washrooms here, so you will need to use a washroom in Apsley before heading south on Jack's Lake Road to Fire Road 50 and then Fire Road 52. There is no other way to get to Jack's Lake Dam and Little Jack Lake unless you come from the north end of the lake at the marina.   yes

Update 2020 : A local resident has been putting up NO Trespassing signs all along the property that borders this public boat launch. Here is a copy of what the Jack's Lake Cottage Association has to say about this boat launch site : "There are public water access points beside Forest Glen Marina and in parkland on the west shore of Sharpe Bay at FR52A. There is a sign on preventing the spread of invasive water species at public launch sites and on the McCoy Road. These access points service the many cottagers who have water-access-only cottages, as well as the cabin and trailer site renters, plus contractors, government agency personnel, service/utility providers, and day users.
