Company 421 of the Civilian Conservation Corps constructe this spillway's 75-foot long raceway and short waterfall in 1935. Company 2413 added on the shorter raceway section and the 4-ft waterfall while they were at Poinsett. Both companies used coquina - a rock formed from ancient sand and seashells. The CCC acquired this coquina locally. They shaped the rock into building blocks. Coquina was used in the park entrance gates, contact station, cabin foundations and steps, shelter foundations and steps, loggia walls and spillways.
