This cache was placed on the site to highlight the history and design features of St. Joseph's Basilica.

St. Joseph’s Basilica, founded over 100 years ago, is a grand church with Gothic design elements. The church has an external design of high and pointed gothic arches. Inside a lofty ceiling soars over a large interior open space, unified by the flow of pillars and arches.  There are over 60 stained glass windows in the Basilica, many of which are visible from the outside when walking or driving by. Some of these windows are dedicated to biblical scenes, Saints, and prominent Church leaders

The Basilica bells were installed in 1990.  These three brass bells, cast in Holland, can be heard regularly in the Oliver neighborhood. Today, all three bells are used in a one-minute peal before weekend Masses, at noon on weekdays and as newly married couples leave the church. The largest bell is tolled at the conclusion of funeral Masses.  In 1990, the bells were sounded at the funeral of a slain Edmonton police officer, Ezio Farone.

The church, with its'Casavant pipe organ and the many pieces of scared art and furnishings, is a vibrant place of religious worship for its active faith community.  In addition to worship services the church is also used regularly for weddings and funerals. Individuals who attend these events who are not regular members of the parish appreciate the sacred space.
