This geocache takes you to Húsabakki. The buildings you come across were built as a boarding school and fulfilled that role from the year 1955 until it's closure in 2004. Since then has it mostly been used as a guesthouse as well as housing the fabulous Birdland Exhibition for some years, which sadly closed quite some time ago. Húsabakki is located in Svarfaðardalur, lying in the heart of the Troll Peninsula with its breathtaking mountain range, the perfect place for hikers and backcountry skiers alike. If you have the time, I strongly recommend to take a stroll through the bird sanctuary while you're at it, lying at the bottom of the valley stretching itself along the banks of Svarfaðardalsá.
p.s. If you are so lucky to be travelling during the winter months you can suspect to see quite a lot of snow, so be ready to bring a shovel and get to digging!
