Rowsley Rec' is a poplar area for children & adults alike & made up an important part of my childhood. We used to visit the play area where there were great swings & a large metal slide, which of course has now been condemned for being too dangerous & removed!
When I attended Rowsley School, we would regularly use the rec' for games & football on Thursday afternoons was the highlight of my week! We also held our annual Sports Day there in July. In those days, the field wasn't kept in such great condition & there was an area of wasteland near to the farmland next to the playground, covered in long grass & nettles. This was later levelled & made part of the sports field. There was also a cricket square & I remember coming to watch matches as a child, as well as playing on the dodgy wicket in the late 1980s. Sadly, the cricket club folded in the 1990s & so the square fell into disuse.
Nowadays though, there are a variety of groups that use the rec' on a regular basis. The school still use it for games & after school activites. Rowsley '86 FC have had great success locally & play on the far side of the field. Rowsley Model Aircraft Club also use the field & during the summer months there are regular car boot sales. You often see golfers practising as well as impromptu games of cricket & football between families.
So you might have to choose to time your visit carefully, if you don't want to be spotted by muggles & the difficulty rating takes this into account. Please take care to replace the cache exactly where it was found.
Congratulations to cats-eyes for FTF!
