9/11 Memorial of Maryland
Dedicated on September 11, 2011, the 9/11 Memorial of Maryland at Baltimore’s World Trade Center honors the extraordinary heroism, commitment and sacrifice of Maryland’s 9/11 victims, rescuers, first responders and their families. The Memorial provides a special place of contemplation and a site to remember and reflect upon the events of September 11, 2001.
About the Memorial
The Memorial’s focal point is an artifact from the Twin Towers, selected by a delegation of members of the Maryland Commission on Public Art, the Maryland Port Administration and the Maryland State Arts Council. The 22-foot-long steel artifact, consisting of three twisted and torn amalgamated steel columns, is the centerpiece of the Memorial. Three limestone artifacts from the Pentagon and a large black granite monolith representing those lost in the Shanksville, PA crash are featured in the Memorial’s design.
Additional artifacts from the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, along with items from the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania are part of the Memorial’s accompanying exhibit at the Top of the World Observation Level on the 27th floor of the World Trade Center. The Memorial is administered by the Maryland State Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Business & Economic Development, and was funded by public and private donations and services in-kind.
Visiting the Memorial
The 9/11 Memorial of Maryland is located on the plaza between Pratt Street and the World Trade Center at 401 East Pratt Street in Baltimore. All are invited to visit the Memorial, which is outdoors and accessible for public viewing.
The Memorial’s accompanying exhibit at the Top of the World Observation Level on the 27th Floor of the World Trade Center features additional information about the Maryland victims, along with artifacts from the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, and items from the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The Geocache
This geocache is a two stage mutli-cache placed on the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks to provide cachers an opportunity to pause and remember all those who lost their lives on that dreadful day. The listed coordinates will lead you to the 9/11 Memorial at the base of the Baltimore World Trade Center from which you will gather information to determine the coordinates to the final stage.

The final is less than a ½-mile walk from Stage 1. When you are within 30 feet of your target, you will find that GZ can be accessed from more than one direction; please choose the least conspicuous approach to aid in the longevity of this hide. The container is a camouflaged urban-regular (bison tube).
