I took a few minutes out of my day today to drop by at the beach. Uh oh. There's a bird close by. I really didn't want to disturb it so paused to observe. Suddenly it came racing towards me at a rate of knots. Should I make a strategic retreat??? - - - I kept right on observing as it came right up to me like it thought I was a zoo keeper with a fish. It got really close and made like it would attack at any moment, but the threat of injury lost out to the novelty of observing the bird at such close range. All birds are so beautifully made and I took full advantage of the opportunity to study its awesome plumage. My cellphone was in my pocket so I snapped at will. Have you ever noticed that a cormorant looks like its feet are on the wrong legs? I guess they're that way so they don't get tripped over.
Suddenly a dog-walker appeared - - - and a dog - - - and the encounter with the beautiful bird was over. It really made my day.
If you visit the spot, do note in your log if the cormorant is still around or has gone off to be with its mates.
