Fort Mitterberg

In den Jahren 1885-1889 wurde die sogenannte Sextner Sperre errichtet, um einen möglichen italienischen Durchbruch in die damals noch österreichisch-ungarische Monarchie zu verhindern. Die Sperre bestand aus Fort Haideck, Fort Mitterberg sowie den Außenanlagen auf dem Hornischeck und dem Innergsell.

Jedoch zeigte sich bereits zu Kriegsbeginn, dass die Strukturen veraltet waren. 1915 wurde die Armierung aus dem Fort Mitterberg entfernt und in Feldstellungen gebracht. Somit spielte die Festung militärisch keine Rolle mehr und blieb daher auch beinahe unbeschädigt.

Während und bis kurz nach dem Krieg diente das Gebäude Unterkunfts- und Lagerzwecken, nach Ende des Ersten Weltkrieges wurde es als Depot des italienischen Heeres genutzt.

Eigentümerin des Forts ist die Gemeinde Sexten; in den vergangenen Jahren wurde die Festung außen und innen restauriert und soll demnächst als Museum zugänglich werden.

Negli anni 1885-1889 fu costruita la cosiddetta "chiusa" di Sesto per evitare una penetrazione italiana nella monarchia austro-ungarica. Lo sbarramento era composto da forte Haideck, forte Mitterberg e le ridotte su Monte Arnese e Monte Casella di Dentro.

Già all' inizio della guerra si rivelò che le strutture erano antiquate. Così nel 1915 il forte fu disarmato e i pezzi di artiglieria furono spostati in posizioni più elevate. Il forte non aveva più importanza militare e per questo restava quasi incolume.

Durante e poco dopo la guerra l' edificio diventò un quartiere di emergenza e magazzino, dopo la fine della I Guerra Mondiale è stato utilizzato come deposito dal Demanio Militare italiano.

Proprietario del forte è il Comune di Sesto; negli ultimi anni è stato restaurato all' esterno ed all' interno e tra breve sarà accessibile come museo.

In the years 1885-1889 was built a fortification line at Sexten to prevent an italian offence to the Pusteria Valley. The defensive belt consisted of the fort Haideck, the fort Mitterberg and camps on the Mt. Hornischeck and the Mt. Innergsell.

Already at the outbreak of war appeared that the structures have been out-of-date. The fortification became outdatet by 1915 and would not have strong bombardement.

During the war the edifice served as a emergency accommodation; after the I War the building became Italian Military property and was utilised for storage.

The fort now is in property of the Commune Sexten; in the last years the building has been restored inside and outside and soon it will be accessible as a museum.
