Geocache Description:

Take a nice stroll down the beach and enjoy this wonderful stretch of coast!

This is 3rd in the CO’s “Go Take a Hike” series. Cache is *not* at posted coordinates and requires roughly a 2 mile trek along the beach southeast. There are 6 stages to this cache including the posted coordinates (Stage 1) and the Final (Stage 6). All stages are “virtual” stages except the final. At each stage you will find information which, after doing some minor computations, will lead you to the next stage. The tasks at each stage are given as waypoints below so be sure to have these waypoints with you as you work the cache. You will also want to have some means of keeping track of the information as you go. Stage 1 is only accessible from 6:30am to 10:00pm.

Finding the information at each stage is not very difficult, but this is rated difficulty 3.5 as there are 6 stages and if there are errors in the calculations you may be sent off the route. Be sure to take the time to do the computations carefully. Each stage is on the beach. If you find yourself northwest of reference point R1 or southeast of reference point R2 (given as waypoints below) then you are off the route.

All coordinates start with N34 and W119. Please re-hide the final cache well, as caches along this beach tend to disappear for mysterious reasons.

At Stage 1 (posted coordinates), you should be standing near the Channel Islands Info Sign. Gather this information from the sign:

A = the last digit of the year Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo sighted Anacapa Island
B = the last digit of highest elevation on Anacapa island
C = the 2nd digit of the estimated number of years ago the Chumash were first on Santa Rosa Island, according to the sign
D = the last digit of the distance from where you’re standing to San Pedro Point, in miles

Stage 2 can be found at:
1B.(B-A)(B+D)D
1(B+D).CAC

Now continue with Stage 2 and happy beach trekking!
Congrats to camsoradap, vviseguy and lou for FTF!

UPDATE 11/20/16: Due to a change in circumstances at Stage 2, that stage has now been corrected and updated.
