Geocache Description:

Was a Mathematcian, Eletrical Engineer, and a Cryptograp

 Shannon Contributed to the field of cryptanalysis for the national defense, .During WW II in 1943 he used Ciphers to break the codes in Kriegsmarine U_Boats in the N. Atlantic.( A mathemaical Theory of Communication)

He was was born April 30 1916   He died February 24 2001.

 


The community of Gaylord is celabrating his life this year and asked me to place this Cach in the Gaylord area in his memory. Enjoy our lovely Town and feel proud to know The founding father of Technology theory was from our small community of Gaylord. 

He grew up here in Gaylord and went to Gaylord high School,

He created and constructed such devices as models of planes radio controlled boats. electronic pogo sticks.

He created a wireless telegraph system to his friends house a half mile away.

Analog computer and digital circuits

In his lifetime he recieved 30 awards and honors, including the Alfred Noble Prize in 1939 ( award of civil engineering in the USA )and he was inducted to the Nation Inventor Hall of fame in 2004. He was a cousin to Thomas Eddison.
