This Historical cache represents the large role that the railroad has played in sustaining and growing the Washington Court House area. In 1853 the railroad opened a line crossing Washington Court House and connecting Cincinnati, Wilmington and Zanesville. Within 7 years the population had doubled and over the next 30 years it grew by 400%. The train in Eyeman Park represents the importance the railroad had in this community. There is also a Historical Marker about Granville T. Woods, an African American inventor who helped greatly reduce the threat of head-on train wrecks!
