This location is home to one of Fayette County’s most popular folklore stories.  The story of Cry Baby Bridge actually predates any of the bridges that have been built on this location.  Legend has it that during the time when the area was first being settled a mother and her baby where wading across the area; either on foot or on horseback. The water proved to be moving too swiftly and the mother and baby where swept down the creek.  Both drowned, but they were never able to recover the body of the small baby. Even now, it is said, if you walk across Cry Baby Bridge late at night you can still hear the cries of this small child, forever lost in a watery grave.
