Geocache Description:

This geocache is located at one of several "northern suburbs" of the "Lost City of Volvon," a significant Native American site in the Morgan Territory - Mount Diablo area. The Lost City and its suburbs have well over 1000 mortar holes, which were used by members of the Volvon tribe of Bay Miwok Indians to grind acorns and other food item.

For additional details on the Lost City, see the Lost City of Volvon geocache.

There are at least three mortar holes at this site, and several more in the rocks 100 feet south, closer to the creek. Clearly the general site was chosen to be close to the pond and the creek that feeds it. I found these mortar holes even though they are not really on the map I have been using (only the area close to the creek was mentioned). How many more Volvon sites are there in these hills that no one has found yet?

A faint trail to the spot starts from the Valley View Trail at N37 50.601 W121 47.633. The terrain rating is 3.5, mainly because it is a LONG hike out here and back. There is some poison oak and stickers at the cache site, so be careful.

Come and enjoy this great site, but PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB, HARM OR REMOVE any Native American items, as they are strictly protected by federal and state laws.
