Geocache Description:

This ditch is likely the main ditch or acequia madre (mother aquaduct - or ditch).

The parking lot and trail are on BLM-managed public land. When you turn into the parking lot, do not drive down the road as you will block rancher and adjacent landowner access. Park in the parking lot and follow the trail the short distance to the cache.

Acequia is pronounced ah-sa'kee-ah.Β  The wagon road is the original from Lincoln west to Fort Stanton and on to the Rio Grande Valley, and east to Fort Sumner and Missouri Bottom (Roswell) in the Pecos River Valley.
