Fordoun is now on the geocaching map. A small village along the A90 that many a cacher has passed by.
So how do the kids manage to get to Redmyre primary school if on foot as its on the opposite side of the carriageway ? A handy underpass.
Often obscene graffiti was displayed on the wall of the underpass not a thing youngsters should have to read while heading to school it was also a very dark and dreary. The Fordoun underpass project was established in 2009,to make the area brighter and safer . The project was driven by Grampian police,Aberdeenshire council departments and Bear Scotland and the community.
New lighting, vegetation cut back and a mural painted on the wall which was a collaboration between the Redmyre school kids and a project artist. Approximately 60 members of the community aged from 8-72 participated in the work. July 2009 seen the official reopening of the underpass with a celebration in the village hall. Just shows what can be achived when a community gets together.
