Geocache Description:

The Wellfleet Health and Conservation Department and Wellfleet Conservation Trust have placed a number of caches around Wellfleet to help locals and tourists alike make it out to some of Wellfleet’s many beautiful trails and recreational areas.

Hamblen Park, also historically called Cannon Hill, has long been a part of Wellfleet. In 1931, the owner Annie Hopkins left the property to the Town of Wellfleet with the stipulation it be used as a public park in perpetuity.  One of the major features of Hamblen Park is Uncle Tim’s bridge which spans Duck Creek connecting Hamblen Park to the town center. Uncle Tim’s bridge dates back to 1783, though it didn’t gain its name until the 1800s when Timothy Daniels, known as Uncle Tim, had a shop next to the bridge. The bridge was rebuilt in 2008 after Wellfleet residents approved a grant to fix the bridge at a special town meeting.

Hamblen Park has a number of trails snaking around the island. The trails lead to several lookout points that offer views through the oak and pine woods (very typical of Cape Cod) out onto the salt marsh. At high tide, the trail that meanders around the outside of the island may be inaccessible.

Being in New England, we advise you to check yourself for ticks after your geocaching adventure!
