Geocache Description:

The Wellfleet Health and Conservation Department and Wellfleet Conservation Trust have placed a number of caches around Wellfleet to help locals and tourists alike make it out to some of Wellfleet’s many beautiful trails and recreational areas.

The Walker trail meanders through oak pine woods with red swamp maples appearing along the edge of the wetland in the middle of the trail. The wetland features a vernal pool certified in 2013 as a result of the presence of a mole salamander. The entire conservation property is considered a “Priority Habitat for Rare Species” by Massachusetts so keep an eye out for wildlife all year long. Also, keep an ear out for spring peepers, bullfrogs, and green frogs in the spring. Be aware that in the spring, sections of the trail may be soggy.

Please stay near the trail! The cache is accessible without wandering more than a couple feet off the trail. The vegetation here can bite- green briar and poison ivy especially- so be aware of where you walk. Also, being in New England, we advise you to check yourself for ticks after your geocaching adventure!

Parking for two vehicles is available on the north side of Coles Neck Road at the storm drain near the yellow “Slow Curve” sign. The trailhead is marked by a large sign and bench.
