Geocache Description:

GeoCluedo

What is a Wherigo Geocache ?

A wherigo geocache is a different type of geocache. It allows you to "play" what is called a cartridge on certain GPS units and also most smart phones using the relevant app. The apps are free and can be found on your relevant smartphone app store or play store. Just search for wherigo and you should find it there.

The geocaches have a different icon (which you have probably already seen) that looks like the one above, and can be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot in Western Australia but hopefully some more will pop up.

How do I play these ?

The best way is with a smartphone and relevant app, as there are not many GPSr units that can do it. All you need to do is just download the relevant app (iphone or android) and then log into the wherigo.com website and download the cartridge. For those of you on an iphone, download it as a "pocket PC" download.

A direct link is here to take you to the cartridge.

Any Tips ?

  1. Make sure you have your location services turned on. Both in general, and also within your app settings.
  2. Wherigo cartridges are created to run on multiple devices. As a result, screen sizes can be a concern. If you see an image but no text, scroll down.
  3. GPSrs and smartphones have different levels of GPS accuracy. So, if you are running a Wherigo cartridge with someone using another type of device, “zone” results will vary. You may have to walk an addition 5 metres depending on the level of accuracy calculated when you started the cartridge.
  4. Be Patient. Like anything new, they can take a bit to get used to, but are also a fun way to experience a geocache.

Whats the story ?

This particular cartridge is loosely based on the game Cluedo.

It will take you to a number of historically important buildings about Northam.

You will be required to work out Who? With what? and Where? just like the board game.

It should be lots of fun with the kids and it is all within easy walking distance of the start point. Most apps will allow you to save the game so you can return where you left off if the need arises
