Geocache Description:

2017 Indiana Spring Picnic ~ Our 15th Year!
Prophetstown State Park, Battle Ground IN
Coneflower Shelter
May 20, 2017

URGENT INFORMATION: Please note these driving directions as some GPSrs incorrectly take you to the business office, not the actual park: Take I-65 to exit number 178 (SR 43). Go SOUTH on SR 43 for a short distance and then turn LEFT onto Burnett Rd. Burnett Road will "T" into 9th Street. Go RIGHT on 9th Street to Swisher Road, which will be a HARD left immediately after the Veterinary Office. Once on Swisher Road you will cross back under the Interstate, continue on this road (you'll circle around the quarry) and you'll end up at the Park Gatehouse. You can also use this mapping address: 5545 Swisher Road, West Lafayette, IN 47906

Schedule:

10:00 am - Registration & ice breaker (sign the log, grab a nametag)
12:00 pm - Lunch (see details below)
12:45 pm - Group photo
1:00 pm - Game prizes awarded & auctions
2:00 pm - Clean up and head out!

*Note: We have the shelter reserved for the whole day and you are more than welcome to hang out. But if you choose to stay at the shelter, we ask that you leave the area clean so we do not incur any surprise clean-up fees.

Pitch-In Lunch:

Plates, plastic ware and napkins will be provided. If you would like to join in, please bring your own entree and drinks, plus a dish to share. If your last name begins with A-H, we ask that you bring a dessert. If your last name begins with I-Z, a side dish is preferred -- this should keep the mix pretty even. The shelter has limited electricity and we will provide a couple of power strips, so crock pots should not be a problem.

NOTE: If you bring an item that needs to be cut up, please do this ahead of time. If your dish requires a serving utensil, please provide your own... we have thrown away TONS of food over the past years because people have no way to serve themselves.

Participation in the pitch-in is absolutely NOT mandatory; but if you choose not to bring a dish, please let others who did bring something line up first. Then after everyone has passed through once, it's a free-for-all!

We will also provide small trash bags and ask that you CITO out your own trash. This event generates quite a lot of garbage, and this minor request helps us enormously.

There should be plenty of picnic table seating, but if you prefer to bring your own chair, please feel free.

Activities:

Closest to the Pin contest will go on from 10am until Noon. Prize awarded after lunch.

A get-to-know-your-neighbor Meet & Greet game will be available. Once your sheet is filled, turn it in for an opportunity to win a prize (awarded after lunch).

There is a really nice playground not far from the shelter. However, please keep an eye on your little ones in this area.

One of the highlights is our Celebrity Ammo Box auction. A few cachers/artists are chosen (secretly!) and their creations will be auctioned off to help recover costs incurred for this event.

We will have a 50/50 raffle available for $1 per ticket -- the winner gets 50% of the total pot, with the other 50% going to recoup costs incurred by the hosts.

For the door prizes: All adults (18+) who attend will receive a door prize ticket -- we have a limited number of door prizes this year, prizes will be announced throughout the day. You must be present to win.

**If you would like to donate items for either the door prizes or auctions, please let us know. All donations are GREATLY appreciated.**

Notes:

There is a gate fee to enter this park: As of 11/21/2016, non-commercial vehicles with Indiana license plates are $8, with out-of-state plates $10. *Please note that this information is current as of the date this event was posted. We will change if needed, but you may also check the Indiana DNR website for the most up-to-date information regarding entrance fees.

The shelter is handicap accessible.

There are modern facilities within short walking distance of the shelter (restrooms are also handicap accessible, with a paved level path from the shelter to the restrooms).

A special custom event tag will be available for purchase at the event ($3/each or 2/$5).

We gladly welcome pets at our event. However we ask that pets are kept on a leash at all times, and of course, please clean up after your furry friend as needed.

Camping:

Camp sites are available through the IDNR Reservation website (the event hosts are camping in Prophetstown, site 127). A campground map will be uploaded to this page shortly, showing existing reservations. We will update as necessary -- if you would like your site on the map, please post your reserved site number here or on the Facebook event page. When booking your campsite, please be sure you are choosing Prophetstown State Park in INDIANA (evidently there is also a Prophetstown SP in Illinois).

Other Weekend Events:

Sunday 9am GC6XJPR 'Good Morning Prophetstown!' hosted by Daggy & Deermark

The Indiana Spring Picnic also has a page on Facebook. Search for Indiana Geocaching Spring Picnic and please *like* us. Our Spring Picnic events are also posted within this group.
