Geocache Description:

This is a new posting to replace tigersden’s original Mitch’s Long Walk (GC24F6X) that was archived.

This is a new posting to replace tigersden’s original Mitch’s Long Walk (GC24F6X), as due to extensive Western Highway dual carriageway roadworks blocking access to the cache, the original cache was archived, with no option to reactivate it. So, with Tigersden’s permission (Encouragement, advice, and remote supervision.) the cache, in a brand new 200ml Systema container, in the original cache's original location, is being reposted with a modified name as my first cache hide. So, if you have visited before, this should be easy, and you are welcome to log again. If you are new to this one, then read the hint, and you should nail it quickly. bring a pen! There will be two FTF credits for this new cache. One for the FTF who previously found the original cache, and one for the FTF for the new posting. UPDATE:-Original cache as placed by tigersden was first found by malikaal on 06/03/2010. First To Re-find new cache goes to chooknchunk on 28/06/2016, and First To Find New Cacher goes to Caching_Cosmics on 01/07/2016. Congratulations everyone.

The original tigersden post that still applies:-

“At GZ you will find one of Major Mitchell’s Plaques commemorating his travels throughout this area.

You will also find an information Board titled “The Major Mithell Trail”.

There is plenty of room to pull your van over and have a break & a cuppa.

This road can be a very busy road at times, so watch the kids and pets and a bit of stealth also required.”

Access:- The original highway at this point is now a service road used mainly by the local farmers. It is still a fully accessible two way road, so pull over into the parking area and be aware of any traffic. GZ can be accessed from the Western Freeway from both directions, but the easiest access is from Ferntree Gully Road (250m east of the GZ.), and turn left into the service road. Another access from the east bound lanes can be found 2.5km west of the GZ, but cannot be accessed from the west bound lanes at this point. If heading west and you miss the Ferntree Gully Road turn off, the best option is to exit at Buangor and follow the signs to go over the freeway and head back eastward. It's a bit of a drive, but is the safest.
